چکیده

We have studied the angular dependence of the irreversible magnetization of several YBa2Cu3O7 and 2H-NbSe2 single crystals with columnar defects tilted off the c axis. At high magnetic fields, the irreversible magnetization M i(Q) exhibits a well-known maximum when the applied field is parallel to the tracks. As the field is decreased below H;0.02Hc2, the peak shifts away from the tracks’ direction toward either the c axis or the ab planes. We demonstrate that this shift results from the misalignment between the external and internal field directions due to the competition between anisotropy and geometry effects.

Local probe of vortex pinning energies in the Bose glass.

Columnar defects provide strong pinning centers for vortices in high-T, superconductors, increasing global critical currents. Using a magnetometer array of micron dimensions, we characterize the local field profiles in untwinned single crystals of YBa2Cu307 ~ with equivalent columnar defect densities B&. We find that the critical current is large only where the internal magnetic field B~B&. In ...

Individual typological characteristics of rat's behavior in open-field and passive avoidance learning

The aim of this study was to compare the learning performance of Wistar rats in passive avoidance box and open field behavior. Animals were placed in the center of the open field and their behavior was manually recorded for 5 min. Two latency periods, first motion, and exit to the center, the number of inner and outer squares crossed, grooming activity, the number of rearing in the center of th...

Effects of crossed columnar defects on vortex pinning in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8

To investigate the existence of a splay effect in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi-2212), vortex pinning has been studied in different configurations of strongly inclined columnar defects (75◦ from the c axis), installed by heavy-ion irradiation. It is shown that the symmetry of the track setting with respect to the field direction is a more influent parameter than the presence of a dispersion in the track di...

Retinotopic Organization of Small-Field-Target-Detecting Neurons in the Insect Visual System

BACKGROUND Despite having tiny brains and relatively low-resolution compound eyes, many fly species frequently engage in precisely controlled aerobatic pursuits of conspecifics. Recent investigations into high-order processing in the fly visual system have revealed a class of neurons, coined small-target-motion detectors (STMDs), capable of responding robustly to target motion against the motio...
